Ontario Enacts Provincial Emergency and Stay-at-Home Order

A province-wide declaration of emergency and a Stay-at-Home order are in effect as of April 8 at 12:01 a.m. The COVID-19 Response Framework (colour-coded zones) is paused during this time. These measures are being taken in response to the rapid increase in COVID-19 transmission, the threat on the province’s hospital system capacity, and the increasing risks posed to the public by COVID-19 variants.

The government is issuing a province-wide Stay-at-Home order requiring everyone to remain at home except for essential purposes, such as going to the grocery store or pharmacy, accessing health care services (including getting vaccinated), for outdoor exercise, or for work that cannot be done remotely.

At the time of writing, the information below was the most up-to-date available. Should we learn of any new information that impacts real estate, we will update members.

RAHB members need to remember that while real estate continues to be an essential service, it is not business as usual. In-person showings are permitted but MUST be scheduled in advance. Members should follow the recommended practices from OREA:

  • Limit the number of people in the home to one group of two people (plus the buyer’s sales representative) to allow for physical distancing.
  • PPE should be worn at all times, surfaces & hands should be cleaned and sanitized before and after the showing.
  • Members should take steps to space out appointments and manage the flow of people inside and outside the home. No overlapping appointments are permitted.
