RAHB Government Relations and Advocacy

RAHB is active in the local political scene in areas that affect members and home ownership. By building relationships with local decision-makers, RAHB is an active community partner and valuable resource for elected officials and other community leaders who want to understand the local real estate market.

With a focus on local municipal issues, RAHB actively participated on the City of Hamilton Rental Housing, Development Charges Stakeholder and Open for Business subcommittees; the Hamilton Housing and Homelessness Action Plan group; Halton Housing Alliance and Hamilton Housing and Homelessness Advisory Committee.

RAHB also participates in provincial and federal political action activities through the Canadian Real Estate Association and the Ontario Real Estate Association’s political action conferences. From March to June 2022, RAHB representatives met with federal MPs to advocate for increasing the First Time Home Buyers’ Tax Credit, giving REALTORS® a voice at the table when it comes to housing issues and to ensure that infrastructure and housing are developed hand-in-hand. Following the 2022 Provincial Election, RAHB is beginning to engage in relationship-building with both new and incumbent MPPs, tackling issues such as ending exclusionary zoning, getting greener homes in Ontario and fixing the Ontario Land Tribunal.

If you are an elected representative or municipal staff employee within RAHB’s market area, and you would like statistics, information or resources, please contact Crystal Henderson at crystalh@rahb.ca.
