RAHB Community Initiatives
Helping Homeowners and Future Homeowners
RAHB works with our provincial and national counterparts (OREA and CREA) to influence decision-makers at municipal, provincial and federal levels on issues of importance to home owners and home ownership.
Recent Campaigns Include:
- Locally – Presenting an alternative to landlord licensing to Hamilton City Council.
- Provincially – Meeting with Members of Provincial Parliament to discourage extending the ability to impose municipal land transfer taxes (similar to Toronto’s) to other large cities.
- Nationally – Meeting with Members of Parliament to discuss indexing the First Time Home Buyer’s Plan to account for inflation and increases in home prices.
Mohawk College Scholarships
RAHB provides two $1,000 Outstanding Student Scholarships to the top student in the first year and the top student in the second year of the Urban Planning Program at Mohawk College. In this two-year program, students learn how to use planning principles, law, processes and documentation to create active and sustainable communities. Scholarship awards are presented every April at Mohawk College.
Fundraisers and Community Awareness Events
Our RAHB members participate in community awareness events all across RAHB’s market area, and love to leave behind a little something for shelter-related organizations! Our past events include the Big Bike Ride in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Dunnville Salvation Army Sleep in the Park, the Hamilton Harbour Dragon Boat Race in support of the Bay Area Restoration Council, and the Grimsby Historical Walkabout and Scavenger Hunt in support of Community Living Grimsby, Lincoln, and West Lincoln.
