RAHB Updates

On Friday, February 12, the Province of Ontario announced that Public Health units in Hamilton, Halton Region, Niagara Region, and Haldimand-Norfolk Country will no longer be subject to the Stay-at-Home order as of Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at 12:01 a.m.

On February 16, the RAHB market area will be moving back into the Province of Ontario’s COVID-19 Response Framework (the “Framework”).

  • Hamilton and Burlington (Halton Region) will be moving into the
    Red-Control Zone

  • Haldimand (Norfolk-County) will be moving into the
    Orange-Restrict Zone

  • Niagara North (Niagara Region) will move into the Grey-Lockdown Zone

Open Houses Permitted in the Orange Zone (Haldimand)

As per the Framework, Open Houses will be permitted in the Orange Zone (Haldimand).

Although Open Houses are permitted in the Orange Zone (Haldimand), RAHB and OREA urge Members to advise clients to continue to use virtual Open Houses, virtual showings or in-person safe showings to show and view properties.

RAHB supports OREA’s recommendation that even with the stay-at-home order ceasing to apply in some regions, everyone is strongly advised to continue to stay at home, avoid social gatherings, minimize travel between areas with different rules, and limit close contacts to their household. Employers in all industries should continue to make every effort to allow employees to work from home.

Other Impacts on real estate

Regions still under Stay-at-Home Order:

The stay-at-home order is still in effect in the Toronto, Peel, York Region, and North Bay Perry Sound District. The Government anticipates that these Regions will be able to return to the Framework on February 22, 2021.

Residential Evictions:

In the regions where the stay-at-home order is lifted — which includes the RAHB market area — the regular process for residential eviction enforcement resumes. Enforcement of residential evictions remain paused in the Public Health Unit regions where the provincial stay-at-home order remains in effect (see above).

Short-Term Rentals:

Short-term rentals are permitted in the Red (Hamilton and Burlington), Orange (Haldimand), Yellow and Green Zones. Short-term rentals are prohibited under the current stay-at-home order and if a Public Health Unit is in the Grey-Lockdown Zone (Niagara North).
